SERVICESFor those of you who are new to HGHS, the library offers an array of services to support your classroom objectives.
CIRCULATION - Obviously one of the most important things we do is help students (and teachers) find and check out the reading material of their choice, whether fiction or nonfiction. From the classics to the latest YA novels, we try to stay abreast of what is popular and also what is required reading - and sometimes they're even the same! :) Checkout is for two weeks and may be renewed for an additonal two weeks. We do charge fines for overdue student books ($.05 per day). We also check out digital devices to students and we have a fledgling DVD collection for teachers only. RESEARCH - In addition to our non-fiction collection, we have two rooms of reference material ranging from ancient, medieval, and modern history, religion and mythology, literature, music, law and government, the sciences, biographical resources, primary documents and more. READ ALOUDS - Yes, we still do that at the high school level, whether it's a horror novel in October, or Christmas stories in December, or poetry in April, or genre studies at any time. Whatever the occasion its always a pleasure to read to an attentive audience. OTHER SERVICES - We provide lamination for any classroom, administrative, or athletic needs. We also do minor book repair for volumes that may not have too many more days left in this world. Students may use our copy machine as needed for classroom assignments. Copies are $.10 a page. We do not do printouts from online sources. There is a conference room adjacent to the copier room for small group meetings. If you need a change of scenery from your classroom, you may book the library provided there is a slot open for your class. A number of teachers have done this in the past when they show movies to their classes, or when they want to engage students in a different setting for a reader's theater routine or other role play scenarios. Also, freshman English teachers may want to go ahead and start scheduling time for library orientations. To schedule classes for library time, just see me or send an email with the pertinent information and a list of possible dates. I will get you on the calendar and notify you immediately. I look forward to partnering with you as we make it a great year here at HGHS! |
